Overview
Bathroom Renovation Calgary: Done Start to Finish
A bathroom renovation in Calgary with Primal Solutions covers the whole room: demo, plumbing and electrical rough-in, a waterproofed shower, tile, vanity, toilet, fixtures, glass and paint. One team runs it from the first photo you send to the final walkthrough.
Most of our work is main bathrooms and ensuites. Some homeowners want a fresh, brighter room. Others have failing grout or a leaking shower that can’t wait. Many want to swap an old tub for a walk-in shower, or make the room safer for aging in place with grab bars or a curbless entry.
Our in-house crew handles everything from demo to finish. Plumbing and electrical go through our licensed trade partners, and we coordinate them so you don’t have to. Every tiled shower gets a Wedi or Schluter waterproofing system, and you get a ballpark range before anyone books a site visit.

Signs It's Time to Renovate Your Bathroom
These are the reasons Calgary homeowners usually call us about a bathroom.
Failing grout or leaks
Cracked grout, soft spots or a leaking shower usually mean water is getting behind the tile. Catching it early keeps the damage inside the bathroom and the cost down.
Tired, dated room
Old tile, a worn vanity, poor lighting and a weak fan. A full refresh changes how the room looks and how it works every morning.
Tub you never use
If the tub mostly holds shampoo bottles, a walk-in shower makes better use of the space and is easier to step into.
Ensuite upgrade
A bigger shower, a double vanity or better storage in the primary ensuite. Or adding a bathroom where the house is short one.
Mobility needs
Grab bars, a curbless shower and a safer layout so you or a parent can stay comfortable at home longer.
What we build
The Bathroom Renos Calgary Homeowners Ask For Most
Every project is scoped to your room, but most fall into one of these three. Tap a tab to see what’s usually involved.
Main Bathroom Renovation
The main bathroom works the hardest in most houses. Kids, guests and everyday use wear it out fast. A main bathroom renovation usually means taking the room down to the studs where needed, fixing what’s behind the walls, and rebuilding with a waterproofed tub or shower surround.
We help you choose tile, a vanity, fixtures and lighting that suit your budget and are easy to keep clean. We also look at the fan. Proper venting is one of the simplest ways to stop mould and peeling paint. Main bathrooms start from $15,000, with the final number set by size, layout and selections.
At a glance
- Demo down to studs as needed
- Tub or shower with Wedi or Schluter waterproofing
- New vanity, toilet and fixtures
- Tile floors and walls
- Fan venting and lighting through trade partners
- Paint and finishing by our in-house crew
Ensuite Renovation in Calgary
An ensuite renovation is where most homeowners want the room to feel a step up. That often means a large tiled shower with glass, a double vanity, better storage and a layout that actually works for two people getting ready at once.
Ensuites start from $25,000. Bigger showers, custom glass, heated floors and moving plumbing all add to the number, so we price it with you as selections come together. If you’re adding a new bathroom rather than updating one, we’ll check plumbing routes and venting on the site visit and tell you what’s realistic.
At a glance
- Large tiled showers with glass
- Single or double vanities
- Layout changes where plumbing allows
- Waterproofing behind every tiled shower
- Lighting and fixture upgrades
- Permits when plumbing or electrical moves
Tub-to-Shower Conversion and Walk-In Showers
Yes, we can convert your tub to a walk-in shower. It’s one of our most common requests. We remove the tub, adjust the drain and valve through our plumbing partners, and build a waterproofed tiled shower in its place.
For aging in place, we can plan a curbless or low-threshold entry, add blocking in the walls and install grab bars where you need them. A walk-in shower is easier to step into and easier to clean. If the main bathroom is your only tub, we’ll talk through resale before you commit.
At a glance
- Tub removal and drain relocation
- Curbless or low-curb entries
- Built-in niches and benches
- Grab bars and wall blocking
- Glass panels or doors
- Slip-resistant tile options
How it works
How Your Bathroom Renovation Works
Here’s what happens from your first message to the final walkthrough.
01
Send photos and your budget
Share photos of the room, a few inspiration images, your budget and your timeline. That’s enough for us to understand what you want and whether it fits.
02
Get a ballpark range
We send a ballpark range before anyone books a site visit. If the range doesn’t fit your budget, you’ve lost nothing and can adjust the scope.
03
Site visit and measurements
We visit, measure the room and check plumbing, venting and the floor. This is where we spot anything that could change the plan.
04
Selections and detailed estimate
You pick tile, vanity, fixtures and glass with our guidance. We then give you a detailed estimate based on your actual selections and scope.
05
Permits and demo
If plumbing or electrical moves, we apply for the permit. Then we protect the house and demo down to the studs as needed.
06
Rough-in and waterproofing
Our trade partners handle plumbing and electrical, including fan venting. We then install a Wedi or Schluter waterproofing system behind every tiled shower.
07
Tile, fixtures and finish
Our in-house crew sets tile and installs the vanity, toilet, fixtures, glass and paint. One team, so nothing waits on a stranger’s schedule.
08
Walkthrough and deficiencies
We walk the finished room with you, note anything that isn’t right on a deficiency list, and fix it before we call the job done.

What moves the number
Size and layout
A bigger room means more tile, more labour and more materials. Keeping fixtures where they are is usually the most budget-friendly choice.
Moving plumbing
Relocating a toilet, drain or shower valve adds trade work and usually a permit. It’s often worth it, but it costs more.
Shower design
A curbless shower, large niches, benches and custom glass take more time and material than a standard tub surround.
Tile and fixtures
Tile size, pattern and finish, plus vanity and fixture choices, can swing the total more than anything else.
What's behind the walls
Water damage, old plumbing or framing issues found at demo need fixing before we close the walls.

FAQ
Bathroom Renovation FAQs
Still have a question? Call Brady directly, or send photos for a ballpark.
How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Calgary?
Most of our bathroom renovations run $15,000 to $60,000+. Main bathrooms start from $15,000 and ensuites from $25,000. Size, moving plumbing, shower design and your tile and fixture choices set where you land. Send photos and your budget for a ballpark first.
How long will my bathroom be out of service?
Plan on 2–4+ weeks. A straightforward main bathroom sits at the shorter end. Ensuites, layout changes and anything found behind the walls can stretch it. We’ll give you a schedule with your detailed estimate so you can plan around it.
Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes. We remove the tub, adjust the drain and valve through our plumbing partners, and build a waterproofed tiled shower in its place. We can also plan a curbless entry and grab bars if mobility is a concern.
What waterproofing do you use behind tiled showers?
We use a Wedi or Schluter shower waterproofing system behind every tiled shower. Grout and tile aren’t waterproof on their own, so a proper membrane system is what keeps water out of your walls and floor.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation in Calgary?
If plumbing or electrical moves, yes. We handle the permit and inspections for you. A cosmetic refresh that keeps everything in place usually doesn’t need one, and we’ll tell you which applies after the site visit. The City of Calgary’s home renovation permits page has the full rules.
Can I use the rest of my house during the renovation?
Yes. We protect the areas around the bathroom and keep the work contained to the room. If it’s your only bathroom, talk to us early so we can plan the schedule around that.
Do you do bathroom remodels in Calgary for aging in place?
Yes. We can add wall blocking and grab bars, build a curbless or low-threshold shower and plan a layout that’s easier to move around in. Tell us what’s hard about the room today and we’ll design around it.
What if you find water damage once the walls are open?
We stop, show you what we found and explain the fix before going further. Damage inside the bathroom is repaired as part of the job with your approval. Damage that extends beyond the bathroom isn’t part of our bathroom scope. If insurance is involved, we work directly with your insurer and adjuster.
